Greg Powell was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and is a graduate of Simon Fraser University with a Double Major (Psychology and Criminology). A 13 year Canadian military career as a Combat Engineer which included providing leadership during aid-to-civil-power missions such as ice storms, floods and forest fires as well as participating in international military operations. Greg is a multiple decorated veteran including the prestigious Governor General of Canada Commendation for his involvement in the Battle of Medak in the Bosnian War 1992-1993. Greg retired a Sergeant commanding 32 soldiers in 2001.
In early 2004 he began as a financial advisor in the Surrey, BC branch. Greg was selected as a sales manager later that year and was approached later for a Regional Manager position to begin in 2007. Over the next 18 months Greg worked with over 400 advisors and 40 managers in BC. In June of 2008 Greg was offered the position of Financial Centre Manager of the Surrey, BC office where has remained and excelled.
During the last 10 years Greg and his team achieved several top achievements in insurance and group benefits in Western Canada BC as well as Nationally. From the last 6 years his agency has qualified “President’s Circle”, a prestigious distinction for quality, consistency and production. Greg repeatedly wins industry recognition such as the “National Management Award”, “Agency Builder Award” and the “Agency Achievement Award” though GAMA International.
For 4 years Greg was President of GAMA International Canada, an association advocating for all leaders and managers in the financial services industry. He is a regular contributor to FORUM, GAMA Internal Journal, Money Magazine, BC Business and Advisors Edge magazines. He is a successful keynote and workshop speaker in Canada, USA and Asia. Greg enjoys scuba diving, writing, and building furniture in his spare time. In 2016 he wrote a best-selling book, The Financial Manager’s Survival Kit which became #1 on Amazon in several book categories and countries.
Having traveled by foot across the Arctic Circle in 1989, he hopes to travel to Antarctica one day to complete his pole to pole experience. In 2010, Greg and his wife Julie Cook, another long-time industry manager, traveled to Kazakhstan to adopt their wonderful daughter Lucy.
